A feather of a Mute Swan (Cygnus olor) floating on water. Canon 5D MKIII, Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro, 1/200, f/4.5, iso 100, handheld.
Last Sunday I spent a glorious morning out in the field. Welcome sunshine, welcome warmth, welcome spring colours and welcome spring smells! This past winter season my photo projects – featuring snow and ice – have been thwarted by… well, complete and utter lack of snow and ice. Time for plan B!

Despite having made plans for photo trips to the Ardennes, Danube Delta and a return to Catalonia, it’s great to adopt a little patch of nature close to home. I’m planning to visit my chosen spot for a whole year and see which adventures that will bring me. Partly a personal photo project it was simply great to be out before sunrise and seeing the first rays slowly give the world a golden hue. This delicate little feather seemed to be floating in outer space.

Talking about sunlight: I recently discovered a world of ‘sunrise, sunset and, sun angle’ apps that give you the exact angle every minute of every day anywhere on the planet. Really helpful tools by planning certain shots and setups. There are many different apps out there, but I currently use the Lite version of SunFollower. Which apps do you use to help you with your photography?
